LEGAL OFFICER (DURBAN)

Description

We are seeking a Legal Officer based in Durban to support the Corporate Affairs function within the petrochemical/oil/gas sector. The role involves providing administrative and legal support, maintaining a central database of agreements and permits, conducting research and contract reviews, supporting compliance and due diligence processes, assisting with BBBEE audits, and managing company secretarial administration.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide general administration support to the Corporate Affairs Officer in all matters within the Corporate Affairs function.
  • Maintain central database of legal agreements, licenses and permits.
  • Communicate effectively with internal clients, external lawyers, shareholders and other stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain an up to date legislative and reference library.
  • Conduct research on specific issues as assigned by the Corporate Affairs Officer and draft memoranda.
  •  Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, record minutes and track closing out of action items.
  • Conduct non-complex contract reviews.
  • Conduct and respond to due diligence reviews.
  • Support compliance to operating licences (eg NERSA, DMRE, TNPA; ITAC etc);
  • Support with BBBEE audits and reporting.
  • Draft and update relevant policies and procedures
  • Undertake Company Secretarial administration functions and support Board and sub-committees’ administration.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • South African citizen
  • Diploma (with legal, compliance and governance subjects)
  • 5 or more years legal, compliance & administration experience with an
    understanding of legal matters and terminology.
  • E-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Own reliable transport

Preferable:

  • Degree (Law)
  • Experience within the petrochemical or highly regulated industry.
  • Good communications, organizational & interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised with excellent time management skills

  • Able to build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Display strong ethical and confidential behaviour
  • Attention to detail.
