Service Foreman

Description

Our client is looking for an experienced Service Foreman to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader with strong mechanical maintenance experience and a proven ability to supervise teams, ensure plant reliability, drive operational efficiency, and maintain the highest safety standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure planned maintenance schedules are completed effectively and provide support to artisans where required.
  • Lead and coordinate boiler maintenance, including inspections and repairs.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of boiler house machinery and systems.
  • Supervise Boiler Attendants and Boiler Firemen in the operation of the boiler house.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections to ensure maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Attend to breakdowns and carry out repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.
  • Manage the servicing and repair of all mechanical equipment within the services department.
  • Accurately complete job cards and planned maintenance documentation.
  • Report major defects and unresolved issues to management.
  • Conduct safety inspections on plant and equipment.
  • Perform equipment installations and modifications as required.
  • Carry out any additional reasonable duties within the scope of the role.

  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical equipment.
  • Sound understanding of mechanical drives, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, water and steam reticulation.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, particularly during equipment breakdowns.
  • Practical, hands-on approach to maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Strong fabrication skills, including welding, grinding and cutting.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum N6 in a Mechanical field.
  • Recognised Trade Test in Fitting or Fitting & Turning.
  • John Thompson Boiler Attendant Certificate will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ fitting experience on heavy machinery, including coal-fired boilers, compressors and water pumps.
  • Previous experience as a Charge Hand or Foreman will be advantageous.
