Intermediate SQL Administrator

Description

An Intermediate to Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is a key technical role responsible for the comprehensive management, maintenance, and optimization of SQL Server databases within an organization. This position requires advanced expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, security, and disaster recovery.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and ongoing maintenance of SQL Server instances, including patching, updates, and regular health checks.
  • Perform backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Manage high availability solutions (AlwaysOn, clustering, replication, log shipping).
  • Monitor and optimise database performance (tuning, indexing, query optimisation).
  • Work with BI tools (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI).
  • Enforce database security and compliance standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and other team members.
  • Contribute to the development of database architecture strategies and aligning database management practices

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • BSC Computer Science or similar qualification advantageous
  • 5+ years’ SQL DBA experience (SQL Server 2012, 2019, 2022).
  • Strong experience with HA/DR, backups, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on with SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, and exposure to Power BI.
  • Knowledge of database security and compliance standards.
  • Relevant IT qualification (BSc, BCom, or equivalent) and Microsoft certifications advantageous.
  • A proactive problem-solver with strong communication skills
  • Proven experience of SQL code creation
  • Proven process analysis experience
  • Proven systems understanding and test experience
