Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Health, Safety and Risk Officer to join our Operations team at a leading manufacturing facility. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with health, safety, risk, and quality standards, while fostering a safe and productive workplace environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain Health, Safety, and Risk systems in line with legislation and company standards.
  • Conduct monthly Health & Safety meetings, maintaining accurate records and ensuring follow-up on action points.
  • Facilitate the appointment and training of First Aiders, Fire Fighters, and Safety Representatives.
  • Oversee induction and safety training for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure proper PPE usage and adherence to safety protocols across all departments.
  • Monitor plant conditions to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct audits on housekeeping, quality, and safety practices, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Manage injury-on-duty cases and ensure appropriate medical support for affected employees.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to improve plant safety, efficiencies, and utilities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) and a relevant Health & Safety qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid Code 08/EB Driver’s Licence.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict-handling, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with a proactive and results-driven approach.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing/industrial safety, quality, and risk management systems.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of auditing processes, compliance reporting, and corrective actions.
