Description

Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Turner to join their engineering team in KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will be responsible for precision machining, mechanical repairs, plant maintenance, and the manufacture and modification of components.

Duties & Responsibilities

Attend to planned and unplanned maintenance on machinery.
Respond promptly to breakdowns and perform mechanical repairs.
Participate in standby duties as required.
Machine components from technical drawings and supplied samples.
Perform the mechanical assembly of equipment manufactured in the machine shop.
Modify and improve existing plant and equipment to optimise performance and capacity.
Conduct daily equipment inspections within the assigned area.
Operate lathes, milling machines, surface grinders and other workshop machinery.
Record completed work accurately on job cards and maintenance schedules.
Report mechanical issues affecting workshop machinery.
Perform precision machining to tolerances of 0.01 mm when required.
Complete turning, milling, V-thread screw cutting, Acme thread cutting and square thread cutting.
Perform surface grinding and basic fabrication work.
Conduct safety inspections on plant and equipment.
Maintain high standards of workplace safety and housekeeping.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric.
N2 qualification or equivalent mechanical trade theory.
Qualified Turner with a recognised Trade Test certificate.
Practical experience operating lathes, milling machines and other workshop equipment.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and technical drawings.
Sound knowledge of machining practices, tolerances and materials.
Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Willingness to perform standby duties and attend to breakdowns when required.
